My Mom who is bedridden has had a toothache since Friday. Usually it will go away in few days, but not this time. She has to be transported by gurney and it always stresses me out! I just feel bad for her to have to go to the dentist by gurney and then have to endure a possible extraction. Thursday can't come soon enough!

Not sure what to do...there is a mobile dentist that comes to the home and does a digital x-ray and if it she is a good candidate they would be able to perform extractions at home. If not, she would need to go to a oral surgeon. Now, for the basic exam it will be $500, and if she needs extractions it will be 480 for each tooth. So, should I call ALL of the oral surgeons in the area and see if they take gurney patients, OR take my chances with the home dentist?

Hope everything goes ok for you two until then. It should with the pain needs and antis. She should be able to ride it out.

Update!
They need to do a few extractions BUT because of her health problems they need to send her to a "special care dentist" at medical center/hospital. I called them to make an appointment but they said that they do not take gurney patients and referred me to another medical center and they said that the initial hospital DOES take gurney patients. Why does everything have to be SO hard?
-I am going to wait until tomorrow for the dentist to send the referral and hope I don't get the same annoying woman on the phone
-For now my mom has pain pills and a 10 day antibiotic treatment. That should help ease her pain

So sorry--

My sweet daddy had so many dental issues as the Parkinson's went on--I don't know why. But he was so heavily medicated all the time he didn't feel much pain. He had to be moved with 3 adults on each end of the trip--and sitting in the dentist's chair was excruciating for him.

So sorry you have to go through this. No ideas on how to make it easier, just sympathy.

You know it, O.C.! Hubby HAS to go to the doctor and cardiologist within the next month for Med renewal. I have no idea how I’m going to get him there. We sure don’t have $400 for ambulance transport. He has a brand-new power wheelchair sitting in the livingroom but it doesn’t fit through the door even though the health care guy measured it!

I feel your stress! Hugs!!!

My husband is bedridden as well and I totally and completely understand how you feel. We have a lift to get him into the wheelchair, but getting him down and back up the ramp is darned near impossible, as is getting him out the door. It’s as stressful as can be. Medical transport is expensive and I’m not sure it’s covered by insurance.

Look at it this way. She has to go to the dentist for that tooth. If it’s infected, the infection could spread to her brain. She will get relief when she goes, then she will come back home and be fine after a few days. That’s how to approach it.
