I have dementia and my doctor gives me about 5 years to live. I have a son that is the sole care taker. His other sister and any other family does not help out much. I have put in a claim for my husband military war time effort was mainly his illness and the end result of his death.

I was wanting to know why waiting for the answer about his claim is there any other financial help that I can get to help me and my son. Also can my son continue with the fight when I passed away?

You should be on Medicare, apply at ssa.gov. If you are low income, apply for food stamps and HEAP. If the son lives with you 24/7 and does not work, the VA may approve Aid & Attendance. Once you die, all benefits stop.

You should check with the VA -- go to their website, you may be eligible for financial assistance as spouse of a veterAn for your care or if you move to a residential care facility. I think they provide assistance on a sliding scale.
