Will she start the 100 day process over at the new place or is it continued carried over from the place she is at now? Her friends just entered a rehab center.

Wonderful, Nan. I hope that you can get her with her friends with no penalties.
Take care,

I don't believe the 100 day process would begin over again; it would be continued.

I'm not familiar with switching for friendship; switching for cause is justified though. In the one situation in which I did this, I asked the scripting doctor to address the issue by letter, specifically raising the issue of unsatisfactory care necessitating the change to another facility.

You would be wise to speak with the scripting doctor to see if she/he would write a letter to the new facility so that Medicare won't refuse to pay (this was what our physician's office advised us).

One consideration to evaluate is how long it's anticipated that her friends would be there. Would it be long enough to make the switch, or would she find herself being alone if her friends leave before her?

Talk to admissions at the new facility. The 100 days does not start over.

Hi Garden Artist - Thank you very much for the information this will help me out alot. Right now the care is unsatisfactory where she is now, I don't know if the assigned doctor will write the letter. I heard that maybe i could go talk to the social worker at the new facility to see if they would help make arrangements, has anyone ever done this ? Nan

What is the 100 days?

Nan, in my area, if one plans to leave a rehab center to go to another rehab center, Medicare may or may not pay for professional transportation to that new rehab location. You may wind up paying out of pocket for a transporter service unless your Mom is able to get into your car.
