Lots of adult children say "we can handle home care" and a month later they are worn out, sleepless, anxious and regretful. If you don't mind being on duty 24/7, never ever go anywhere, do not have a day job or a social life, go ahead try it. I have know those who tried; it almost killed them.

If your mom has less than $2000. in the bank, she can apply for Medicaid for a nursing home.

If you want to hire someone for caring for her in her home (through an agency), you can check Google for elder in home care companies or something similar. Try to get a rating on the agency and read some recommendations.
Here in Southern California it's running about $23.-$25./hr.

Or, you could hire a friend or family member for half the cost (but probably half the experience, classes and insurance also.)

Ask the librarian in your public library if they have a Senior Living Guide behind the main desk.
