Find Care & Housing
Is your mother in the advanced stages of dementia? Has she been getting progressively worse lately?

Generally when UTIs are treated they are not fatal. Some people take a long time to recover from them, and some need another round of antibiotic.

If you think your mother may be in the final stage of dementia, would you consider calling for hospice care? Nobody can tell you how long your dear mother will live, but hospice can help you understand where she's at in the disease process.

I am so sorry you are dealing with this now.

Get her to the Dr immediately. My Dad was determined to have a UTI and the assisted living facility called his doctor for a prescription. We had just been to the Dr on Monday and this was Friday. I asked my dad if they were giving him a new medication and he didn't know, they just brought his meds and he took them. The med tech was off sick, and I missed seeing him on Sunday as I was sick. I checked with her Monday when Dad seemed very lethargic and weak. She said the Dr. never called back or gave a scrip, so I rushed him to the hospital. It was downhill from there and Dad rapidly progressed to aspiration pneumonia, kidney failure, and sepsis. I know I have posted this in other threads, but my Dad and I were very close, and I am struggling badly.

Dear Ken,

Please get your mother to the doctor right away. She needs to be assessed or given meds. Call an ambulance if needed. I think this is something very treatable.
