Mom has Alzheimer's and has been living with us since December 2012 although she has had disease for 7 years now and I have been dealing with this the whole time - - she refuses to take a bath now - I am lost and don't know what to do. She gets moody, abusive towards me - has pushed me - snacked me - just a bad situation. Don't know where to turn.

Does she take showers? Can you get a shower seat? You could try getting into the shower with her. Literally.

When I was caring for Mom at home, she also got to the point where she loathed bathing. She was afraid she'd fall.

unfortnately she never would use a shower - she is 82 and always used the bath tub - prior to this disease she was a cleaning freak - washed her hands about 50 times a day - thats why this is totally out of her character. The other thing is she hates to be cold - so I crank up the heat to sauna material that doesnt work either - tried the seat - nothing

thanks for responding

Do you have a YMCA or other such facility locally? Maybe they would let you try some of their facilities to see what might work--- open shower, sauna, steam bath???? She's probably terrified of some facet of the bath process -- slipping, getting cold, being exposed, whatever! When you figure out what it may help you design a "bath" that will work for her. I heard of someone who sat her dad on a stool in a kiddie pool and poured warm water over him to get him bathed.
