I know Mom is only allowed to keep about $60 per month and the rest goes to the NH. I also know Depends/etc. costs about twice that per month. If incontinence care isn't included, how do they expect the person in the NH to pay for that? I certainly cannot afford to. Do they expect family to cover this? There is no one who would be willing or able left in our family who could do it. Really hoping to hear that the $6000/month fee they charge covers it. Mom's SS/pension is about half that so Medicaid of course would pay the rest. TIA.

Akaheba, it is my understanding that Medicaid will pay for Depend type products. You may want to verify that with the Memory Care facility.

I know what you mean about the price of Depends type products. It was a sticker shock to me.

Medicaid covers incontinence supplies. They won't be ordered specifically for your mother; the nursing home stocks such supplies for all patients.

If there is a beauty parlor in the NH and your mother uses it, she will need to pay for that. Occasionally there may be an event, such as going to a restaurant or ball game, that your mother will need to pay for. My mother's NH brought in fast food once a month and those who loved white castles or whoppers or whatever signed up and payed for that food. Your mother may have a few optional expenses like that, but she will not be paying for any medical supplies.

Is she paying out of pocket. Is her facility privately owned meaning they don't take medicaid? Then u pay for personal items or she does. If she is in longterm nursing care on Medicaid then personal items should be included on the price. My Mom is in LT private pay for two months then Medicaid takes over. I have not paid for any diapers. At $10K a month, I should think not.
