is it time for memory care

Find Care & Housing
I was told when you ask it is time.
But each caregiver is different.
Everyone with dementia is different.
Base your decision on what your boundaries are.
Base your decision on safety.
If it is no longer safe for you to care for someone in your home, or theirs then it is time to place them in a facility that can meet their care needs.
And by that I mean if it is not safe for YOU or for THEM.
And safety does not necessarily mean physical safety it is mental, emotional as well.
And consider other options as well.
Can you have paid caregivers come in and help do what you can not do or be there when you can't.
Are there programs that can help? Local Senior Service programs may have options. If the person is a Veteran or their spouse is or was a Veteran they may qualify for programs or benefits.
Is the person able to attend Adult Day Program so that they get care for 7 or 8 hours a day a few days a week giving you a break.

Placing someone in Memory Care or any facility for that matter is not an easy decision and it is one of the most difficult we make as caregivers.
We think we are "failing" if we can't keep someone at home.
Placing someone is not a failure it is acknowledging that their care is more than we can safely manage at home.
