I should amend that answer, since Medicare will pay for rehab if progress is being made, as well as for a short time if someone goes into skilled nursing in preparation for long-term care. Medicare won't pay for long-term maintenance of a person. That is where Medicaid comes if someone does not have enough money for long-term care.
Once your Mom needs full time care....even Medicaid will not pay for that outside of an institution. Full time care at home is more than Medicaid will pay for.
