I can get up from a sitting position, but with great painful difficulties including the fact that I fall sometimes. I have spinal stenosis, scoliosis and degenerative disk disease, but I believe the worst of my problem is the weakness of my core muscles causing me the inability to stand up straight at any given time. Still I want to make sure of the correct information that is to be written on the prescription. With Medicare the wording has to be exact.

What is it that's being prescribed? Are you referring to assistive devices or meds?

My mother got such a chair, but I don't remember if it was through Medicare or Medicaid.

Call a place that sells such chairs and ask if they get payments from Medicare.

The physical therapist or the doctor may also know how to go about getting help to pay for one.

Thanks Jeanne, I have a place that excepts medicare, but they don't know the exact wording that needs to qualify me for the chair, or the kinds of disabilities. I know that my doctor will write me a prescription, but it's how he words it that worries me.. From the description I wrote, the wording, I would like an opinion if someone knows if that will qualify me

A couple of threads discuss this - Medicare will pay for the LIFT mechanism but not for the chair itself. Marilyn, an occupational or physical therapist experienced with elder care will know the specific language that the prescription needs to be written in. If the place you are shopping at "accepts Medicare" but isn't familiar with the language of prescriptions, etc. just be very careful that you are using a legitimate company that can get it properly submitted and won't come after you later if Medicare doesn't pay.
