Medicare provided a wheelchair for my husband while he had dementia. The way that works is they rented one for him and the vendor called each month to verify that he was still using it. After the rental payments equalled the purchase price, we owned the chair.

If you mother has both Medicare and Medicaid, and her doctor orders this for her, it will probably be Medicare that pays for it.

The problem with advanced dementia, is that they can't figure out how to make the wheelchair work. Talk to her MD, see if he thinks it will be suitable.
