Ideally, she would agree that you should use a little of that money to get an eldercare law consultation. Arrangements are possible so a caregiver can be paid, but with it being her asset and more than $2,000, if they find out about it they would probably require a spend down and there could be a penalty period before getting Medicaid benefits, or estate recovery involved. Im suprised Medicaid application went through without them finding out, and whoever did the Medicaid application probably was supposed to have disclosed that. Don't know if rules are different for in-home or waiver supports versus nursing home. You may want to clarify or give more details.
