I turned 65 a few days ago. I had applied for some extra assistance programs for Medicaid, I got a letter in the middle of July granting me the QMB coverage program. 2 weeks later I got a letter saying they denied me of the Medicare premium assistance program. What what does that mean? The QMB program is supposed to pay all my deductibles and Medicare charged me $183 this month. Can anybody help me to understand what's going on?

You may make too much money for the Medicare premium to be paid. Its based on income. My nephew receives it because he has been disabled from birth and he gets about $1200 monthly to live on.

You have a caseworker assigned to you. Call them and ask them to explain why you were turned down. Always call your caseworker when you have questions about your Medicaid.

You can actually call your Medicaid office, just be prepared to wait on hold for a long time. We did this when we had a question and they were very helpful.

Deductables might be free but everyone pays into Medicare insurance either for part B or supplemental and 183 sounds like the going minimal rate. I assume you are not collecting Social security because you have the option of deducting payment through your monthly payments. Go to Medicare.gov and look up your particular policy. You can also call an insurance rep about Medicare.

Look online to find out whether there is a nearby Area Agency on Aging. Someone there might be able to answer your questions about what's going on with your Medicaid.
