My 79 year old mother has been drawing money as needed from her IRA. She was just informed by Medicaid that her "income" has passed the $1300 threshold (she was up to $1700) and they are canceling her Medicaid. How can we reverse/appeal/fix this? What is our recourse? thank you

I live in NY and I would think money in an IRA would disqualify Medicaid.

Ritchie, there is a caseworker assigned to your mother. That is where I would start researching your options ... consult the caseworker. Most letters denying some benefit have an explanation of what to do to contest the decision.

A more expensive option, but probably effective, is to consult an attorney who specializes in Elder Law.

Good luck! And please come back and let us what you do and how it worked. Many people would benefit from this information!
