Meeting with a Medicaid planning specialist today. Is it reasonable to pay someone $1,500.00 to do medicaid planning? Finally decided to place my mother and mother-in-law into assisted memory care facility. I want to do the right thing and want them to have quality care. I also need to get back into the full-time workforce, after being out three months. I appreciate all the support and tough answers I received on this site. I am finally realizing that I can't care for my mom and my mother-in-law in my home any longer and have a descent life. Caregiving is sooooooo difficult. I have been able to work the last five years, while caring for my mother-in-law, (having hired HomeInstead Senior Care, and having her attend the Christian Health Care Adult Daycare program) but there were too many other demands in the evenings and weekends. I took my mom in, (who has more physical, than cognitive issues) and quit my job to care for both, but I am now BURNED OUT. I need lots of prayers and support as I place them in a long term memory care facility. I also need a new job, since I cannot return to my teaching position in Jersey City. I need some positive helpful advice. Thanks.

I am a caregiver 24/7. I take care of 3 people
1 - My mother 92 who lives by herself in a home 13 miles awar. I take care of any living problems and pay her living bills.
2 - My mother-in-law who lives with me and has dementa.
3 - My wife who had a stroke in 2000 that limits her physical and mental.
I am the only one who can drive and I regulate all meds ( over 32 in all )
I am retired, however, I had one thing when I was working I do not have now. When I was working, I had at least 8 hours a day away from the complaints and problems. Now I pop sleeping pills to escape for a few hours. I am burned out, and can see no light at the end of the tunnel. I did find two retired nurses that sit with my mother 4 hours on Monday and 4 hours on Friday. That gives her some one to talke to. To all you who caretake someone, good luck and find a way to get away for a few hours each day. God Bless

You're going in the right direction. No one can take care of 2 elders in their home, have a career and live to tell about it. Good for you.

You should not have to pay anyone (an attorney is the only person I would even consider, and that would only be if you think something wasn't done correctly in the past that could hinder approval).

No, it is not reasonable. Both Medicaid and VA benefits consultants should NOT be charging you a dime. Walk away.
