My grandad  when he falls ill or has any thoughts/ dreams about death often has erratic episodes where by he can become quite verbally aggressive and often works him self up. This seems to be a pattern and is worse whenever he thinks about death, we know he has severe anxiety about the fear of dying and death itself, but what is the best way to take care of him when he gets in to these aggressive episodes?

Dear Sash,

Sorry to hear about your granddad's episode. Please talk to his doctor about what treatment options might work. I'm not sure if a psychologist might help in the case. Or maybe consider different meds that might help. I know its hard to see our parents and grandparents age and face these challenges.

I'd have him evaluated by a geriatric psychiatrist. My dad takes meds for anxiety and they really help him. He hasn't had any episodes in almost 2 years. My cousin is on Cymbalta for anxiety and depression and she did very well on that. It's taken daily and doesn't make her drowsy at all. There are many different medication options. I'd see what the doctor might suggest.
