Mama heard voices; where do we go for help?

Holdingon70, oh just remembered back when my Mom was hearing voices. Totally forgot about it.

Turned out it was Mom's hearing aid which was signing an all talk radio station. With some adjustments at the hearing aid place, the talk radio went silent :) That can happen with radio waves. I recall decades ago my first responder scanner was picking up car phone conversations.

Take her to a neurologist. Maybe there is a med.

She has had three at three different facilities. At last place she realized no one else heard the voices and said, "I must be crazy then". Trying to assure her she's not and even though we don't hear the voices does not mean it's not real to her. Voices ask the same thing, " Is Mrs.______in? Is Sister _____in the area? " She hears people singing hymns. Someone outside her window or in the street. Her memory is great. Always ready for an activity. Try to keep her stimulated so she doesn't just watch tv or s!eep. Is a retired college professor who's alert otherwise. I do realize your assessment is probably true, but we have to resolve her hearing the voices as it is causing slight depression.

Holdingon70, has your Mom had a recent Urinary Tract Infection test? If not, please note that UTI's can cause a long list of symptoms, one of them being hearing voices. If you can, make an appointment for Mom to have a UTI test [peeing in a cup]. If the test is positive, then Mom will be given antibiotics.

If that doesn't remove the voices, it could be that Mom is now into another phase of her dementia [as per your profile].
