There are medicade programs, and veterans assistance. You can look online to see if he qualifies. To qualify you must not have more than $2000. A percentage of social security is used to pay for the AL and the patient is given a small allowance per month.

From what I have read, it depends on the state you are in. In my state of NC, they have what is called Special Assistance for certain disabled seniors who qualify. Based on what I found, you have to have a doctor say that you NEED certain help with daily activities like, bathing, changing, taking medication, etc. Dementia may cause people to need this help or some disability like blindness, deafness, immobility, etc. Plus, you have to meet their income and asset requirements. It's similar to Medicaid for nursing homes, but slightly different. I think that other states have similar programs. In my state, all of the applications are handled by the local county dept of social services. They process your application for all services to see what you qualify for. It's my understanding that if you are disabled, (officially by a doctor), like need substantial daily care, the income requirement might be different from those who are not disabled.

I've also read that some states do not provide this option. I'd confirm it from your state agency though. You never know what might be available.  I've also heard that Veterans may have potential benefits.  If you know of a facility that you are interested, they may offer some tips for financing as well.
