My mother in law is in the beginning stages of dementia. We are looking for a roommate for her in a wonderful facility we have found. We are self funding so if we can find a roommate to share in the cost - it helps everyone! She loves conversation, visiting and watching tv.

i do not. I hope you find someone to your mutual benefit. I do believe you need to be clear that you are looking for a companion and you should also expect to pay expenses and compensation. Someone who also necessitates ALF facilities would not be appropriate to oversee another patient/ resident. I have no doubt she is a lovely person, in a nice facility, but this is a job, not a living arrangement. If the facility allows 2 patients to a room or suite, they may be able to find a second person.
Best of luck

Ismiami,
It is an Independent Living facility. A caregiver companion would be awesome. You know, when people meet her, they are amazed when we tell them that she has onset of dementia. She can carry on a very intelligent conversation, has interest in all sports, movies, etc. and loves people. Do you have someone you think would fit the bill?

Are you looking for a well person that will also look after her? If so, it would be more of a caregiver companion than a roommate. Or, are you looking for someone who also needs to be in a facility? Perhaps someone with dementia like her. I would be concerned it it is the latter. What sort of facility is this, Independent Living?

again be careful, be wary...I think that churches, other women's organizations are good....Craigslist not my favorite for relationship issues. Some churches have a valuable office manager who "knows all" and can think of someone who might fit the bill. Schools or colleges maybe?

There will be a lot of those and I'm sure you know to be careful of them, but it's really a huge pain in the behind that there are so many spammers and predators in there.

Thank you. I did put a listing on Craigslist and got a very 'interesting' reply.

I know people are wary of Criag's List, but that's where I see these types of requests. You might check on your local newspaper. I see these ads under ads for housing/roommates/apartment rentals.
