Long-term-care facility process for husband with Parkinson’s and dementia. Do you look for memory care first?

Thank you I will do that. Right now the AL says physically they can no longer transfer him. Main issue. They know him so they understand his communication. A new facility won’t. I know the Dementia will get worse. ESP once they move him to a new environment. I’m pretty sure they will say he needs both Dementia and physical care. It’s scary. Been down this road and always promises that don’t pan out. My main thing I want him to have mental peace for some quality of life. I also want him physically taken care of. I’m just overwhelmed. This will probably be his final home. He’s also in Medicaid so many options have been shut down. Thx!

The home that my brother and I have placed his father and wife, is a step up program home. Today, they are in AL. He is in very poor health, in diapers and a wheel chair, she has dementia. When it is time for her to be placed in memory care, he will go with her, the staff will continue to care for his needs and hers, no change except they will be in lockdown and she will be more closely monitored. There is also another step which is hospice care.

Have you asked for a :needs assessment"?

You local Area Agency on Aging should be able to do one. You can also ask his doctor to refer you up to a social worker who can evaluate him and recommend the right level of care.
