My sister lives in Florida and there are places there where you can get wheelchairs, etc. free that someone has set up as a service for seniors.
People who no longer need them take them there and others can go there and get them free. I don't know how to go about finding a place like that here.
Any help would be appreciated.

Find Care & Housing
My community has a program called HERO (Health Equipment Recycling Organization). While many things have a small charge, it's amazing what they have for just a little money. They also have many new items (such as boxes of new equipment needed by someone who no longer needs it). You could type your community name and versions of "recycle medical equipment" into your search engine to see what comes up locally. Also, a call to any social services organization in your area should get you some answers.
Good luck!

I do not know what state you are in but in MA the Masonic Lodge or Masons have equiptment and it is free. Look it up in your state, I've gotten hospital beds for my parents, portable potty chairs, walkers... good luck
