I'd suggest you find a place you're interested in, and talk to them. Tell whoever is in charge, that you need something suited for your mother-in-law who is old, however YOU'RE the one that takes care of her. See what they say.

Some senior communities allow for a senior and a caregiver. You can check with them to see if your situation matches their guidelines. I take it you are not yet a senior yourself. My ex and I lived in a retirement community, though I was underage. He was old enough, so qualified. Unfortunately, when we split up, I did not qualify to stay. :(

My mom lives in a senior apartment complex that will allow live-in caregivers, so I think that is a really good option. I believe we are going to face this problem soon with my mom, as her place requires independent living. If she needs assisted living for a more chronic care, she would have to move. Am trying to get Mom to pool her money with ours, so she could live with us, if need be. Her arrangement is fine for her, and even though we are eligible to move there, it is not a place I would want to live. However, there are nicer places that would allow the arrangement you are thinking of, so please check it out!

We have an assisted living apartment complex that does allow for a caring adult/s to live with the senior. My mom lived there for awhile and one of her neighbors had her adult daughter living with her in one of the two bedroom apts. I have often thought that once my teenage son is out of the house, she and I just may look back into living there again....
