Hi just interested in finding out if anyone has a permenant live in nurse (with dimentia experience) rather than putting their family member in an aged care facility. I had the idea from a friend who (unrelated to the subject of aged care) has a live in nanny for her children. She also mentioned that there are nannies (students studying) that can also pay to live with you (minimal of course) and also help with the children and im just wondering if there is anything simular for aged care and where to look. Of course id like to keep mum home as long as possible and as time progresses and i cant be there 24hrs a day i thought a live in carer would be better than taking mum out of her surroundings. Yes,its prolonging the inevitable but a nice thought. Any ideas would be welcomed. Im in Australia

I have no experience with a live-in professional care giver. I would imagine you would have to give them time off.

I know that being around a dementia patient 24/7 can be very stressful. I would be concerned of burn out and anticipate you would need shifts of people and not just one person. Maybe, others around here have done this before and can offer you their experiences.

Are you looking for a Nurse or a carer?

Nine out of ten seniors report that they wish to age in place, at home. However, frailty, chronic illness or forgetfulness can make living alone too difficult. In these cases, live-in care allows your loved one to remain in the comfort of his or her home and maintain as much independence as possible, while ensuring the highest level of safety. With 24/7, around-the-clock care, a caregiver is always watching over your loved one, offering emotional support, reducing fall risk and assisting in all activities of daily living including:
Cooking and light housekeeping
Laundry and change of bed linens
Grocery shopping and errands
Companionship and range of motion exercise
Transportation to doctor appointments, supermarket, pharmacy
Assisting with walking and transfer from bed to wheelchair
Bathing, dressing and grooming assistance
Status reporting to family
Medication reminders
