Find Care & Housing
In order to claim a parent as your dependent for income tax purposes, you must provide more than half their support for the year. However, such support can terminate at any time you so decide. Thus, such payments are not relied upon by Medicaid eligibility rules. Essentially, you are making gifts to your parent when you pay their bills.

They become ineligible because they must declare that someone else is paying more than half their support. The dollar amount is reported and factored in.

I was actually told the opposite. You might want to check directly with an accountant, tax attorney or just call the local offices that handles Medicaid. In my area, it was the local social services office. Good luck.

Living with u and has Medicaid insurance? Living in a nursing facility using Medicaid to pay for total care? If Medicaid is paying for total care, then I would think you can't claim her. Call Medicaid.
