All persons with POA must agree to every decision before anything can get done. Having more than one person responsible often leads to conflicts, misunderstandings, and delays.

A common practice is to name one person POA and name another as a backup, in case the first person cannot function in that role for some reason.

Not at all. You could sign a hundred if you like. Makes for interesting family gatherings.
