If the person has some strength and can support weight a Sit to Stand would be a good option.
A Hoyer Lift if there is limited mobility or no strength to support weight.
A Hospital Bed might be a option as well. Replace the couch with the Hospital bed. A short rail can be use to support someone sitting up and holding on to it while standing. The bed can be raised or lowered to make getting in and out easier and make standing easier. The Head can be raised so they can be almost sitting up. the foot can be raised for comfort. either of them can be raised or lowered to make repositioning easier if that needs to be done.
A Hospital bed will not take up much more room than the couch does.

Hoyer lift. The doctor can order it and Medicare will pay.
