i work at an alf and w/ some residents i think they do not belong in our facility!!! we have residents that all they can do for themselves is eat!!! unable to use a toilet, cleaning their bottoms and have them urinate and moving a bowels while you are trying to clean them!

Each ALF is different. Many require the resident to hire a separate in-home care person to come in and take care of the needs you mention. These folks do sound like they belong in a nursing home environment, but your ALF must have rules. Talk with the management to make clear what they allow and when they require people to get other care.

In the places I've seen, your Level 1 care people are completely independant. All the facility is doing for them is cooking and cleaning. Level 2 may include the facility nurse coming in to give them their medication instead of just providing reminders. Levels beyond that usually has to do with how many activities of daily living the resident needs assistance with (bathing, dressing, waking up/tucking in services).

I'm sure where you work has folders and what not put together for those touring the facility. That will list all their levels, and all of what they include. Get one and it will tell you the specifics.

if you dont like it Find another place of employment. the managers/owners of the residence apparently need to fill up with residents to make money to wages and their mortgage/expenses/ wages/insurance... etc.
If I were you I would notify the owners of the patients needs.
Leave it up to them to decide what next step to take.
You are there to do a job, not to RUN the Business.
Been there done that,,,,,didn't take long for them to send me down the road for INSUBORDINATION. good luck.

i know my wording was harsh judy but i was asking a question, also wanted to know what levels of care are ie: level 1?, level 2?.......level 6? believe it or not I LOVE MY JOB! i have heard that in certain instances we are assisting residents beyond what we should be doing, and i came here to get some input from knowledgeable people, if i wanted to run their business or just wanted to be insubordinate i would not have come to this website for help!!! thank you for the answers!!
