In Illinois, you can get the form needed for guardianship at your local probate courthouse, fill it out and file it yourself, and appear pro se in court to ask a judge to award you guardianship. There is also free legal aid to help those seeking to get guardianship of their elderly parents/grandparents/spouse. I don't know if it works in Kansas that way or not, but it might be something for you to look into.

First step in guardianship is to have mother declared incompetent by the court. You need your mother's doctors to fill out the appropriate form in your state that you will take to the judge.

-OR-

See a lawyer like cmagnum suggested and they will assist you in completing all of this. Best of luck to you.

Redsamathis, there is no easy way, not even in Kansas. You really need a lawyer for this one and about $3,000 to start the petition to the court. It's not just a form, it's LOTS of forms, credit checks and fingerprinting and scrutiny of your legal history right down to parking tickets. Been there, done that.
