I care for my father 100%. He can't do anything for himself. It is breaking my heart to see this strong man like this. How long does this last stage last? He hardly ever talks. If he does it is unintelligible.

As long as he is eating and maintaining his weight, he is not terminal. You are a wonderful supportive child, I wish there was someone like you for all the elders who need support.

We bring him into the living room and sit him in a chair for the day where he naps and eats his meals from a tray. Then in the evening he goes to bed. Usually sleeps about 10 hrs. I don't want him to stay in bed if he can sit in his recliner. He will get bed sores. But, he really can't do anything for himself. I hate seeing my wonderful dad like this......but, I know that he knows we love him. Even though he doesn't know who we are.

Once he is bedridden, about six months. Once he stops eating and drinking, a week or two. Loss of speech is not an end sign.
