He is now 62 yrs old and the medical aspect is becoming more and more difficult for me to handle. I just placed my 95yr old father in a VA home in June 2015 and am happy that he was able to get in as a resident. Care has been good but he does seem more confused lately. I try to visit him 2x a week (about 45 min drive) and still take care of my brother and the home. It is really becoming all too much lately. My brother has talked about being in a home, but what kind would serve his needs. He really wants a private room with bath, eat in his room and have his TV and radio for entertainment. He likes his privacy and has never been much of a talker with others. He needs bathing, dressing, toileting(depends) and has a supra pubic catheter. He can be moved to electric wheelchair to come to table to eat, watch TV and sometimes read the paper. I just don't know what kind of facility to start looking for. Would we have to start on private pay? I just want a nice comfortable place for him as I know we all want for our loved ones. Any ideas? Thanks

He is on a Home Health Service provided by his HMO so there is not much help from the physician in that regard. We used to belong to MS support group but it became too challenging for him to be able to get out to meeting so we stopped going. I guess I could start with them again. I was hoping to hear from someone who has actually placed there loved one with MS in a facility and how things turned out? were you satisfied with the place and how did the patient feel out it?

Ask his MD about MS support groups. There is more than one near you, find out which one he would recommend.
