He is in much pain and his wife is 91 and no help to him. My father in law broke four vertebra in his lower back he is 89 mom in law is 91 he basically takes care of her, after two weeks in rehab they told him he can go home! He is no better today than two weeks ago! Great amount of pain, and gets sick from the pain meds! I know Medicare has changed many rules but he does have a secondary insurance! Does anyone know anything that can be done to keep him there longer? If so what and how do I do?

Find Care & Housing
Two weeks is not a long time at all. I wonder what reason the rehab has for releasing him so soon. Usually rehab is discontinued when the patient has gone as far as they're going to go with rehab. That they won't benefit from any more rehab.

You can explain to the rehab that your FIL has to be in better shape so he can care for his wife but it's been my experience that facilities do what they want to do. They might send in a social worker to help your FIL figure out what to do about your MIL.

After broken vertebra he's liable to have pain and suffering for the rest of his life. Was it a compression fracture? It might be time to get some in-home help for your in-laws. Your FIL may not be able to care for his wife the way he used to.

He's telling you he is in pain, but I'm willing to bet he is telling them he is just fine. You grab the discharge coordinator and tell them the ugly truth. They will tell you Medicare covers 20 days. You will tell them there is more insurance money available.

As of tonight his orthopedic ok transport to his office on Tuesday to see if he needs an MRI.....really aggravates me because this should have been done already but never was only x rays were done! Hoping the out come will lead to more time for him in the rehab!

my aunt was just hustled thru rehab in too few days too . the therapists now visit her at home. I think its just the changing face of medicine. our hospital is three stories tall and the third floor is dark and empty. medicine has been a growth industry for too long. its snowballed into something our economy cant sustain.
