I am looking for recommendations on a device that would alert me if she needs me at night. I was thinking baby monitor, but not sure if there is something better.

Find Care & Housing
Assuming your Mother has the ability to press a button, Checkout “CallToU caregiver pager” on Amazon. I utilize these and can hear the notification even when wearing earplugs at night. My wife is non verbal and immobile and I have been using these for over four years without a failure.

A device that will alert you at night could soon become your worst enemy. Imagine the buzzer or alarm going off at all hours - and you're waking up many times. It's not easy to go back to sleep after such a thing! Your fight or flight instincts will kick in every time.

With my husband, he could wake up 6 or 8 times per night and wander around or miss the bathroom or ask me questions or try to get out the secured doors of our home or rummage in the kitchen or something. Alarm! Alarm! Alarm! Alarm! Alarm! Alarm! Alarm! Alarm! It's impossible to get enough rest with all that going on, especially if you're taking care of them all day as well.

Who will take care of you? That's the important question you should ask yourself before heading further down this road.

This doesn't answer the question about alerting you, but you can get a baby monitor with a camera so that if you wake up slightly, you can look over at it and go back to sleep with peace of mind.

If you're sleeping with a fan on and a headset on for white noise as well, I don't think that you'd be able to hear any device whether it be baby monitor, bed alarm or security camera notification when you're intentionally trying to block out all noise/sound. I'm just saying.

There are phones that will buzz that you can put under your pillow and have a device that is connected to it that sets it off. Some phones like a Jitterbug can be set up to go off if the elder falls.
