Promises are just words, the Will is a written contract and must be followed, the only way for you to keep the house would be for your brother to acknowledge the agreement and voluntarily give up his inheritance. Sorry your brother is an a** and only cares about what he can get.

Is your brother the beneficiary of the life insurance or was it written to the estate? If the only beneficiary is your brother, then you are doubly hurt. Parents can put too much faith in the goodness of their children.
