My husband is head-strong . He won't follow directions . When I'm in another part of the house he'll go to the front door ,open it and swear he didn't do it or says he doesn't remember doing it. I need some kind of alarm that will deter him from opening the door. I can't afford ADT just something that will alarm and then he'll shut the door quickly.

I believe that the feeling of looking for something without knowing what is very common among people with AD? So I would expect that what your husband says is true - he *doesn't* remember opening the door, he may not even be aware that it is the front door that he's opening.

So while I agree with Angel that there are simple to install and operate, low-priced door alarms, I also agree with Soloinny that it sounds as if this will soon not be enough. How are you getting on with caring for your husband at home? Do you have enough help and support in general?

I have squealer alarms on my doors that are very loud. They are the Jaguar brand, which were very cheap in price, super easy to install and will wake you from a dead sleep. That doesn't stop him from leaving though...he won't remember that there is an alarm on it and will continue to open it. Is he wandering outside and getting lost? If hes wandering outside then an alarm is not enough, it may be time for memory care.

I haven't priced them myself but have been told that places like Lowes and Home Depot carry door alarms for a reasonable price.
