There is very little in the way of federal government or state compensation for family members who stay at home to care for a parent.
Some states have more programs than others...you can try your local "office on aging" - the number is listed in the government pages in your phone book - or online. Is your Mom a member of a church or local organization...they may have volunteers that can help out once a week or so. Also, try your senior citizen's center.
Most caregivers pay out of pocket for in-home care. It costs about $12-18./hour here.
good luck
