My sister is the main caretaker, who lives with my mother, who has dementia and bipolar. I am the secondary caretaker, who also has bipolar. I'm usually there during the day. Is it possible to get paid for taking care of our mom?

lizbec26, the vast majority of grown children who are caregivers for their parent(s) do not get paid, unless the parent can pay them from their own retirement fund.

As JoAnn had mentioned, you can try calling your State Medicaid office [Medicaid is different from Medicare]. Each State has their own rules and programs. Medicaid is funded by the taxpayers.

Your profile says your mother is 50? This could go on for a long time.

Mom can pay you both from her assets.
Who is POA? the POA would be the one that would be responsible for paying caregivers.

See if Mom fits the criteria for "in home" Medicaid. Some States will pay family, others only agency aides.

If her care gets too much, you could place her in Memory care if she can afford it. If not, then u will need to apply for Medicaid.
