My 90 year old ma has been at home hospice care. For the past couple of days she has been out (sleeping). Nurse said she is in transition, but that was 2 days ago, now she is up eating again. Is that normal?

A "rally" can be possible.
You should talk to the Hospice Nurse and ask what might be happening.
There are no "set rules" as to what a person will do.
Let Hospice support you. Your Hospice should have Trained Vigil Volunteers that they can have come and stay with you. Each Volunteer will stay 3 hours or so and another Volunteer will come and relieve that one. The goal is to stay with your mom and support both of you.

Yes. In death and dying you can expect the unexpected.
Take your questions to hospice. They will reassure you that they often see this surge, and it can happen more than once. Just allow it to be as your elder wishes.
