My 86 year old mother lives in my home. She has dementia and a myriad of other health issues. She can hardly walk but can get herself up during the night to use her bedside commode. She is at risk of falling. I am wondering if an infrared alarm can be set up in a way that allows her to get herself up to toilet but would go off if she strayed too far away. We already have a wireless doorbell taped next to her bed and baby monitors. I would like to be able to sleep through the night myself without worrying that she has fallen.

Baby monitors, and motion detectors are annoying but, life giving & saving! Also, I took my lady's steel portable bed rail to the local welder, and he tricked it out, and customized it to her needs! He said his grandma is the same age as my employer, and the thought of her falling out of bed was very upsetting to him. What a nice grandson!

Need infrared monitor that reaches over 200 feet from bed to nurses station.

I have them everywhere because Meno tends to wander sometimes and I couldn't live without them. For the price and ease they are worth it. Dad is tall and I don't have them going off when my children go to the bathroom in the middle of the night. menos-daughter

If you are putting it on the bed, put it on the bottom so that anyone passing does not set it off. Also, if the bed tilts upward so the person can sit up make sure that it covers all angles. The other piece of information is that you may need one for each side of the bed. There are some brands out there that are cheap and unreliable, recommend Posey because they have the reputation and stand behind their products. AVoid the cheap ones, they have reliability issues.

Motion detector over the bedroom door works great. It does take some time and two people to adjust so it will only go off when getting to the door but well worth the piece of mind you get. It can even go outside the bedroom, on the floor, so will go off when crossing out of the bedroom. We played with ours for several hours to get it just right.
