I need a suggestion In keeping my wife clean. For several years no problem now after a recent hospital visit she cries out in pain when I try to roll her to change diapers and bedding. Drugs are not very effective and she suffers in pain 24 hrs She has a staph infection and a bad bed sore. If she goes into hospice to get more drugs they will stop treatment for her wound and staph. The system is screwed up. Any suggestion on how to keep her clean with minimal pain. I ordered a purewick but several weeks on delivery. Not to mention the criminal price.

Hospice treated my mom’s bedsore. I would start hospice. Please do a thorough comparison of the providers in your area because they do not offer the same services. Select the provider that is best for your wife’s needs.

I am so sorry for your wife’s pain and so sorry that you are struggling with this.

Sensing many hugs your way, Sample.

You Sir have been misinformed. Hospice WILL treat your wife's bedsore and staph infection.
They will also supply any needed equipment, supplies(including catheters)and medications all covered 100% under your wife's Medicare. Plus a nurse will come out at least once a week to check on her and aides will come bathe her at least twice a week, again all covered 100% under Medicare.
So PLEASE, call them ASAP and get them on board with helping your poor wife, so she doesn't have to lay there and suffer.

I don't know where you heard that hospice will not treat bedsores. They certainly do. My mother was treated very carefully with this ailment and they were the best at providing the best pain management. This is a very serious situation and it would be ideal if you found proper treatment ASAP. It may not be able to be cured and it can be an end of life situation but it is treatable and proper pain management should be sought out. Btw my mother was also catheterized constantly.

How awful for your wife! To have a bedsore and infection and be in such pain, sounds like torture. Please consider hospice services, and don’t make assumptions about what they will or won’t help with, you may be surprised. Has her doctor been made aware or offered any help? I’m sorry you’re both going through this and hope she will find peace soon

Get her into hospice. You can stop it any time you want,

She’ll get meds for pain. You’ll get wound care help.

Hospice does not stop treatment of wounds or infections. That's completely false.

My mother was in hospice care for seven months, and the entire time she had wound care for a bed sore she got in the hospital. She was also not taken off her medications or denied any other care.

I just found out today that because of hospice they will discontinue wound vac therapy but will still continue to care for the sore

Several points ...
You should have a special wound care nurse to treat the ulcer, ask your doctor how to go about getting one.
I think that spending time every day in PASSIVE RANGE OF MOTION movements/exercises can help keep her joints from stiffening up and being so painful.
Do you have a slide sheet to assist you when you move her in bed?
How often are there aides coming in to assist with bathing, if it's fairly often then you might be able to be a little less aggressive with her daily hygiene.

Yes she has wound care about 3-4 times a week. The physical therapists have given up and expect me to do pt which is painful. In addition to the nurses she gets a bath aid once a week but they gave up the other day due to excessive pain. Doctors refuse to up the pain meds so she cries in pain all day unless she can get to sleep.
the nurse gave up today trying to change her diaper and bed chuck in addition to her wound vac thing. If this was easy I would not be reaching out for help.
