Does anyone know what the income limit is in order to qualify for veteran's disability assistance?

We applied for VA benefits for my mom in September 2010 and are still waiting for the application to be approved. I hope you don't need the money right away!

Helen: thank you for the info. I did call the VA main number and, after going through several menus, was not able to speak with a "live" human being. Then, I called one of those places that does the paperwork for you...and the gentleman was kind enough to share everything he knew.
Basically, I found out that there is a chart for yearly income limits. BUT you have to consider your income against what your care will cost. In other words if your needs (ie: ALF, nursing home, in-home care, non-reimbursed medical care, etc) exceed your income then you will most likely qualify for some assistance. The maximum benefit for a widow of a veteran with no dependents is $1056./mo. You also have to qualify on three or four other points which were on the website you sent me.
The thing that I was surprised about, was that people, who are being cared for at home and/or are housebound or need "assists" to walk can qualify too. They will cover all un-reimbursed medical expenses like co-pays, etc.

Gelinne: have you contacted the veteran's admin. about the delay? Did you have a company that helped you submit the paperwork? (they really are helpful) If your Mom is at an ALF or NH, many of them pay the fees of the company who submits the forms. good luck...never any fun dealing with red tape!

How do contact someone to help with the paperwork? I printed out the paperwork in the past and filled out but never got an answer from the VA.

Manhattan: the gentleman I spoke with today told me that companies who do this for ALFs and Nursing Homes are used to the "system" and can usually get a quicker response (he said it would take between 3 and 4 months).
The VA does have people who will help. But you may want to try one of these private companies. The best thing to do is call an ALF and ask who they use for their residents.
