Usually spouses are not paid by outside programs like Medicaid. However, I highly suggest to look into programs that will assist you with caregiving. Geaton777 provided them and also any local aging agencies and community churches would be my first choices.

Good Luck.

Ask him to write you a check? My husband has been taking care of me for 2 yrs now after tx for cancer left me disabled. Maybe I'll suggest he pay himself from our joint checking account. Although when I cared for him for 3 yrs I didn't get paid. Who thinks along these lines?????

Spouses usually don't get paid for taking care of spouses. It's assumed that we take care of each other till death do us part. One way out of it might be to have a prenup that spells out what we're willing to do when they get sick, but most people who get married don't think about that.

Start with the services for the blind in your area and see if they have help available for you, but don't get your hopes up. Once married, forever obligated. Sad.

I hope you find what you need.
