Sue, the vast majority of grown children who are caring for their parent(s) do not get paid..... unless the parent can pay you from their own savings. If your Mom can do that, then you would need to drawn up an Employment Agreement. As for being paid since 2009, could your Mom afford to pay for 10 years of back pay?

Otherwise, moving forward from today, check with the Connecticut Medicaid office [Medicaid is different from Medicare]. See if your Mom could qualify for Medicaid. Ask if the State has any programs where a relative can be paid, and if so, what is the hourly rate. Don't be surprised if the State says "no". And if the State says "yes" it won't be like pay for a full-time job, there are zero benefits.
