I want to buy a CPAP cleaning machine for my mom to help me with keeping her CPAP clean. It's a chore cleaning the equipment each week. I'm looking at So Clean which is pricey at $300. So I wanted to ask everyone with their collective wisdom if they have any good experiences with CPAP cleaning machines.

I've had a CPAP for several years and have a special fabric "sock" that covers the entire tube so there's no condensation in it. I never wash or disinfect it. Daily I wash the mask with Dove soap every morning and dry it with a towel. I then disconnect the tube from the unit and the headgear so that air flows through it all day and dries any moisture. I also pull out the reservoir and open the lid (I don't remove the remaining distilled water) also to dry out any condensation. I replace all parts (mask, headgear, tube, filter and reservoir) every 6 months. I have never had a problem. I use a ResMed unit and I love it.

Thank you for sharing your experience. We've been replacing the mask, etc at the shortest interval that medicare approves.

My husband has been using a CPAP for 13 years now and just uses warm water, mild dish soap or vinegar. Never had a problem. It takes around 5 minutes to clean it. Maybe less. I don’t see a need to sterilize it but he’s healthy and not at risk of anything.

My dad has the so clean machine. he is 95 and loads of problems would not remember to to the cleaning without someone/something to do the cleaning for him. The CPAP machine can be pricey to replace and certainly a place where all kinds of gunk can and will collect inside the tubing etc. My son also has a cpap-but he does his own maintenance with vinegar water soak tubes etc in a pan for a bit rinse and dry. Seems to be doing well with this method. He has other serious illness and needs to keep it clean to not make more problems for himself.

Thanks so much for sharing your family's experiences with the machine and cleaning it. I'm curious if the So Clean machine is working well for your dad?

I have so many care tasks, I'm hoping this will lighten my load.
