New Year’s Day I was sitting by the hallway and she ran me over with her walker so hard hitting both my knees and right foot. I’m now bruised. Before that she’s been verbally abusing me with her screams and cussing and giving me the middle finger all the time. I have reported this to the agency but was advised just to be patient and stay in the job until she gets to know me. I’ve been ran over several times with her walker and shoved too. I’m 75 years years old and I feel I’m also a victim here of elderly abuse. Thank you.

Consider sending your agency scheduler a polite yet clear written notice of your end date working with this client (ie one week). Request reassignment. Don’t go back after you’ve satisfied your notice’s end date.

Most agency’s around the Country are welcoming qualified caregivers. If your current employer is unresponsive, find a new employer. In all circumstances, remain professional and polite.

The family needs to be notified of this abuse. If Dementia is involved, she needs to be medicated. Your being abused and the agency is allowing it. Take pictures of your bruises and tape her screaming at you.

Tell your supervisor that you would like to be reassigned to another client.
You can give your supervisor the rest of this week if you are so inclined.
Inform your supervisor that you will tender your resignation if you are not reassigned. (only do this if you are truly prepared to leave the job!)
NO ONE should have to work for someone that is abusive.
What you could do if you are not reassigned is this...
Next time the client does anything to harm you call 911 explain to the dispatcher that you have been injured. You can inform the dispatcher that you need transport to the hospital.
THEN you call your supervisor and tell them what transpired and that you are going to the hospital and they need to sent a caregiver right away.
If 911 arrives before the next caregiver the client may also have to be transported since she can not be left alone.
Then you can let the agency and the family figure it out from there.
(make sure you file workman's comp claim!!!!

I wouldn’t stay in this position. I would tell the agency to assign you to a new client or that you are going to quit.
