My husband is 65 and he had dementia and other health issues. I retired early to take care of him but he he was so aggressive and mean I couldn’t take care of him. It was horrible (he was alway mean and hateful but the stroke and on set of dementia made him worst) he been disabled for 24 years and refuses to let anyone in the house to fix it and it’s a horrible mess it is payed for but I don’t have the money to fix it to live in since I moved into a senior citizen place and I get SSI and I have to pay rent and utilities too. I use some of his disability money to help. Am I going to have pay it back? He is in the VA mental hospital and I refuse to bring him home they don’t use any of his disability money I keep him in clothes and adult underpants. Again am I going to have to pay him back cause he is asking his social worker to make sure I go to jail.

Find Care & Housing
Are you living in low income (Section 8) housing? The rent should be 30% of your income. What do you use his Disability money to help with? If you are using it for his clothing and other things he needs, save the receipts to prove that. Do you have a joint account? If you are on the account, you can use whatever is there. Is your name on the house too?

Just because your husband is raving about putting you in jail doesn’t mean that will happen. However, I think it would be a great idea for you to call your local area Agency on Aging and see if they can hook you up with Legal Aid. You should get some help so you know what you can and cannot do with the house.

I think you mean Medicaid when you are talking about the house.

I agree, see if you can have a consult with a lawyer. If ur on ur own, who is paying taxes and utilities at the house? If not paying taxes, eventually the township will get involved and u will lose the house. You are married. Medicaid is not allowed to make u poor.
