My eldest brother passed away recently and very suddenly. Our mother has been hospitalized since the beginning of August due to poor health. She wants to attend this funeral but she is still very very sick. If she attends, she will not be able to go back to the hospital. If she doesn't attend the funeral...well...Mom refuses to hear of it. She is adamant about going. I don't know what to do.

You tell your mother no and take Blannie's advice to bring SOMETHING to her.

Could you bring the service (or a part of it) to her hospital room with the minister who will be doing the service and your immediate family members? Would something like that satisfy your mom?

Someone in the family could also videotape the actual service and show it to her in the hospital. Get the grand kids with cell phones to tape it and show it to grandma. Bring the guestbook and share that with her.
