I prefer to shower alone, so far I have showered twice alone but the aides here always want to shower me. How do I make them understand I am capable of showering alone?

Sorry, I just read your profile and I see where you live alone. The agency gives specific instructions. They are most likely protecting themselves legally. If you fall you could say they neglected you.

The agency can’t put themselves in a position to be liable for a client falling.

Have you thought about going into assisted living? That way you have your own place and request the services that you would like. Services that aren’t needed at this time you can put off until you feel they are necessary.

Could you ask the aide to wait just outside the shower cubicle? That might meet their rules and give you the privacy you want.

I am assuming that you have a safety rail to grab, and something to sit down on or use to help you wash your feet. However if this is at your own house, and it isn't equipped, you are probably better off co-operating with the aide.

It may be protection for the facility. You know, people are sue happy. A lawyer may have recommended that after a fall to always help the residents bathe. So in that case, the facility may have adopted that as a policy.
