I would say it depends.

If the meds are for a condition that must be managed each and every day... for example insulin for diabetes, antibitoics then definitely he would need to be woken up.

If the meds are for something that requires levels in the blood like anti depressants or coumidin, he should be woken up.

If the meds are vitamins, or are meds that could be taken in the morning when he wakes up without any problems then he should be left to sleep.

The best thing to figure out the proper answer to this is to ask the doctor about the med timing. Some meds MUST be taken on a strict schedule and some can be more lax.

I'd say it is best for you to take the initiative and make sure he takes the meds before he retires for the night. If he doesn't go to bed when you do them make sure he takes them before YOU go to bed, just make sure you are keeping to the prescribed schedule.

If the med is supposed to be taken HS (bedtime), then wake him up, give it to him, and he will go back to sleep. Meds are usually spaced apart so one gets the right amount of medication in the body at even doses.

It depends. If the meds are OTC. e.g. vitamins, then your answer is "no, don't wake him." If it is an RX med, such as. e.g, Lisonpril, then your answer is "yes, wake him."

I set alarms on my phone to make sure medicine is taken on schedule. Just a thought.

Heidi0901 - There are many of us who still do not have phones you can program, nor do I intend to get one. Haven't you heard of the cancer risk? However small, I still can exist without talking to people every second of the day like a lot do...just a thought!

ferris1: I think you meant a smartphone, even though you just said phone. That said, "haven't you heard" of the device that you can attach to the back of the smartphone? It prevents people from getting cancer.
