Katy - Please contact your local area agency on aging. They have knowledge of the state laws and programs that might help you. Often there are subsidized apartments for elders and assisted living that will accept medicare. They might also have volunteers who can help you prepare and submit applications for such assistance. You should also qualify for a variety of other 'things" that can help you - a circuit breaker (where all of your annual expenses are used to calculate a reduction in your property taxes) or other programs to reduce your property taxes to nearly nothing. You might qualify for state assistance even if you're not in a nursing home - food stamps, home health aides, meals on wheels. The area agency on aging can help you understand it all. Look fr them in "aging" in the yellow pages.
