Self-appointed advocate for elderly couple. Living in same house as couple I take care of (ex-in laws). Made schedule for their 5 children to help out/ that was futile and want to explore what Medicare will pay for them in home. Personal Hygene is a REAL problem w/them. have gently guided her but he is stead fast against me helping him, therefor, he doesn't bathe

Teepa Snow and the 36 Hour Day are aimed primarily at caregivers of those with dementia, I believe. While some issues are very similar no matter what the care receiver has, you might ask their doctors for suggestions of books or pamphlets on caring for persons with their specific impairments.

I was able to get Teepa Snow full length DVDs from a library. They were about two and a half hours each. They are wonderful and I gained numerous insights. Also try the book The 36 Hour Day, also available through a library or bookstore.

This is not one specifically on caregiving but I find it helps me have some perspective on all of this stuff and I found it for free at the library:

So far my favorite is Teepa Snow. I found a mini series of hers that gives me info a little at a time. The first of the series.
website: youtube/watch?v=sUgPm8RMa48

If the website above is gone, try googling:
Teepa Snow - Making visits valuable.

I have found that by watching it first from beginning to end of the first video. Then, by re-watching it again but now take notes, that I get more info and retain it by doing it this way. I also found that I missed some good info on the first time I watched it.

Oh, she also has in the series about bathing. BUT, I recommend starting on the first video because she Explains how those with dementia think vs. how we think. Don't skip, start from the beginning and work your way to the end (6?)
